Cadets First On Scene At Car Accident

On Tuesday 23rd February Cadet Sergeant’s Joshua Parry (16) and Jack Whitworth (16) were walking home from cadets when they saw two cars collide several metres ahead. The boys rushed to the incident and one car was engulfed in flames.  The two Sgt’s stepped in and assisted at the scene.

There was a lady in the burning car that they moved to safety, they then assisted the two gentlemen. They called the emergency services and then administered First Aid to the casualties and moved them further away from the burning car.  The boys then directed traffic away from the scene until others came to help.  As more people joined the scene the two cadets directed them to get first aid supplies and blankets, they then showed them how to assist with first aid.  The boys remained calm and controlled the scene until the emergencies services took over.

“I didn’t really think about what to do everything just kind of happened.  My first aid skills and leadership training helped us manage the situation.” Sgt Josh Parry

“I am really proud of us both; I never thought these skills would be put to the test like this.” Sgt Jack Whitworth

“We have had many messages of congratulation and praise for our two cadets.  We are immensely proud of them and how they coped in such a challenging situation.  It’s great to see cadets using the skills they have gained to help in real life emergencies.” Fg Off Sophie Roberts OiC 162 (Stockport) Sqn.
