Recently at 162 (Stockport) Squadron ATC, there has been a plethora of promotions including the transition from Cadet to Corporal and from Corporal to Sergeant. This is due to their outstanding progress as cadets in the recent months, as they began to show more advanced leadership qualities and a higher ability to command the cadets.
On squadron, NCO’s have a selection of responsibilities ranging from fairly common tasks such as forming up cadets into a squad, to more complex and challenging tasks including being the duty NCO for the evening and organising activities for the cadets to complete on the parade night.
The cadets who were involved in these recent promotions to Corporal are Corporal Callum Bowden and Corporal Jamie Pullen, who have been dedicated to the Air Training Corps for approximately 3 years now and in this time have achieved excellent feats including bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards and Saint John’s Ambulance First Aid YFA qualifications.
Advancing up the rank hierarchy to Sergeant, was Sergeant Sophie Knight, Sergeant Lyle Whyatt and Sergeant Premsingh Ramchurn who have been members of the squadron for up to 4 years, achieving awards such as Master Air Cadet, a BTEC in Aviation Studies and numerous shooting and sporting awards. As individuals this means that they now have more responsibilty and also means that they will become more experienced members of the Squadron NCO team.
Recently promoted Corporal Callum Bowden said “I am excited to work towards and achieve my potential to be great member of the NCO team, and I am delighted that I have been chosen to take on this new role”.
By Corporal Parry and Corporal Whitworth.
