Two Stockport Air Cadets and one of their Adult Volunteers have recently returned from a royal date at St James’ Palace where they received their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, the highest level Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Cadet Sergeant Christopher Blampied (18), Sergeant Lewis Taylor (20) & Cadet Flight Sergeant Blake Noden (18), accompanied by their families, made the trip to London to pick up their hard-earned awards and to meet Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. The certificates were presented on the day by adventurer Levison Wood, who acknowledged the hard work and effort put into achieving a Gold DofE.
Lewis commented on the day by saying. “It was a great end to what has been a fantastic journey, the palace is amazing and I was lucky enough to have a chat with Prince Phillip!”
During the challenging 12 month Gold DofE programme of activities designed to test their teamwork, perseverance and confidence they all had to complete five sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skills , A week long Residential and a Four day (Three night) Expedition in Wild Country.
Blake added, “Gaining my Gold DofE has given me confidence in myself to be a good leader and shown me the importance of being an effective team member.”
Flying Officer Sophie Roberts, 162 (Stockport) Squadron’s DofE Officer said: “These three have been exceptionally keen and completed all three levels – Bronze, Silver and now Gold. They are now helping the other cadets from the squadron gain their awards and are a credit to the squadron.”
